August 12, 20214 yr made a good run to distract the marker to allow Ziyech to score that goal, otherwise I saw nothing of him in the game. Think he will deliver 15 assists a season with Lukaku playing as the main striker.

Due to his much admired running ability, obviously. Wouldn't have had a cat-in-hells chance of getting in the shooting team though.

August 13, 20214 yr still betting on him to score 15+ this season.. Thing that gives me hope - LM scored 6 goals in 27 before lukaku arrived then in both seasons he scored 14 and 17 respectively.

I had that hope a few weeks ago, but then I saw his performance in the Super Cup and he looks the same player... Hopefully playing with Lukaku changes that

If you have money you want to just throw away then give it to a charity, or me rather than make that bet.

It was also a supposed irrelevant good run that led to Havertz having the freedom of Porto to make us Champions of Europe.
August 13, 20214 yr Author Think the addition of Lukaku will benefit him. Will take the pressure off him and he can utilise his strengths such as his speed and creativity, while Lukaku does the rest. In reality, Werner was never a traditional striker in the way some had hoped.

I think he and Lukaku should click together very fast, Conte played L.Martinez with Lukaku in Inter in a similar formation so now with Lukaku that can hold the ball and win areal duels up front we have a new dimension in our attack and that's something that Werner can exploit with his pace. I don't think Werner has the technique as Lautaro but as long as he stays onside and makes smart runs he can improve his finishing.
August 15, 20214 yr Despite the overwhelming weight of evidence to the contrary, I still had an irrational hope that Timo might come good this season. But that pass to no one yesterday would appear to suggest that his "yips" are still fully intact.

I'm giving him one more season, if he doesn't improve I'll be advocating shipping him back to the Father Land.
August 16, 20214 yr I worry just how hard this has hit him. His movement and pace creates all kinds of problems, but the end product is simply missing. My concern is when he does score, there is a resigned embarrassment and lack of real celebration. I want him to wheel away celebrating like a leading striker, not one that is sheepish. Own it Timo, own it.

Yes, but you can't look past the lack of confidence and missing clear cut chances. It looks great right now, but football is a game of margins. We lost the FA Cup Final and then to Villa on final day, securing CL only because of Spurs. That doesn't rest on Timo, but in a matter of weeks we've become all conquering. It swings quickly. Because of that, I think we benefit from a striker that can relieve more pressure off other areas of the team. I still hope he comes good - the second part of my post was my main concern in that I think this has hit him harder than we may want to believe. But yes, team wins, always.

Yes, but we're at a stage where we're happy to rush in and shower him in praise for "clever runs" that lead to goals, but completely gloss over the games where said runs are completely ineffective. There are also other players like Mount, Pulisic etc who offer plenty of options off-the-ball but have more all-round ability that Werner. I said earlier in this thread that Werner is finished as a top-tier goal threat. I stand by that, and if a decent bid comes in in January we should get rid. Dont think so.. he will score and score buckets in the right set-up.. maybe a team like Utd that plays counter attacking is better suited.. but he has pace and movement that will make sure he will create opportunities.

Imagine Tammy in the same circs. By the time he would have taken off his shirt and posed for a few muscle flexing selfies, that pooch would have been long gone.
