Played James at right back, giroud up front, mount ahead of kante, havertz behind giroud, pulisic at left attacker. Basically round pegs in round holes.

He should of definitely started Havertz and Werner up front, they created mayhem against Everton, and the law of averages says Werner will start scoring regularly, i'd start James all day long, Kova and Jorginho have been a success, i think playing Pulisic was an act of good faith by Tuch, how the hell Ziyech gets in ahead of CHO, well thats totally baffling...

No problem at all mate. I agree with you, did not want to just beat them, wanted another 4 goal smash.

To be fair Lamps knows exactly what the rivalry means and he is a Chelsea fan, TT is  ot and possibly does not. What he does know is he is on an 18 month deal and he will get other chances to make up top 4. To him I would guess is just another league game. One bad display against Madrid however and is lights out in the CL and past few years that is all that matters to his employer.

Absolutely, and maybe that’s why our best game under Lampard was against this lot. But his morning was annoying, they kicked us all over the park and we had nothing to return. I mean, the first half was interesting but I thought we would be all over them on the second as they’d tire. We came on the second half thinking about Atlético, and that’s Chelsea playing at Leeds! Not good enough for any Chelsea fan, sorry Tuchel. He’s done well so far, but this (and Spuds) was the team we wanted to smash.

Reading through the comments today it looks like the honeymoon period for Tommy is finally over.

A rotation policy was never going to satisfy everyone.

It's rotation for rotation sake. Even Claudio would be getting dizzy.

In hindsight, should have just kept the same system and most players, probably edge out another 1:0. I reckon he's trying out a plan B, knowing teams are getting used to the 343. It didn't work out on the day, but can't blame him for think ahead and trying a different system. I expect the normal setup for the CL game mid week. With the current setup and players, we won't be losing many games, but draw will be a regular occurrence.

I fully agree. We definitely need a plan B and this current system is not sustainable if you want to win a title. It's caught teams out under Conte but that won't work anymore. For us it has steadied the ship af the back and created a better balance.

He needs to find a more traditional and lasting formation which I hope he does in time. Its the Prem and you don't get free games to experiment so it's the risk you got to take.

As far as I'm conerned if we don't lose to Athletico his rotation will be justified. The 3 points were of importance but, we still have plenty to still play for.

He chose to keep Werner and I assume Giroud rested for the Athletico game, the only question is who plays with them up top. It all comes down to whether CHO starts. He did a good job in the first leg and probably deserves to start again.

With the emphasis on not losing the game, I can understand why he may choose Reece at rwb. So then CHO may play higher up on the left or right. On the other hand Kai has been knocking on the door for one of the attacking positions.

In his own defence, we did create some good chances, the missing link was no striker on the field for about 70 minutes. Bring on Werner in that scenario was never going to work, you need a big striker getting on the end of good cross against the type of "continental" team we were playing against. I think in his vision, we will be a team of 25 and rotate 5-6 won't impact results in most games, obviously that won't come true until at least 6-12 months.

If we get through Atletico, I begrudgingly reckon 2 points dropped was worth it.

Perhaps I am going crazy as I see several claiming we didn't play 3-4-2-1 yesterday but in my view it was the same formation as always. Pulisic was the RWB and it was still the back three.

It was 343 offensively, 4231 defensively, very similar to how we play with cho as rw.

I agree. So similar to how we have always played under Tuchel then.

It was exactly the same, not sure what people saw that was any different.

Pretty much.

Yesterday game was good example what happen when you play 3 no 10,with no penetration (Pulisic is supposed to be this guy, but Pulisic on the right is absolutely useless)

Come on guys, we're complaining about Tuchel's selection after a goalless draw when our line-up actually looked more like a 3-3 than a 0-0. I know, in hindsight you see a lot of rotation, you see a goalless draw, you see Atletico on Wednesday and suddenly it looks like Tuchel "sacrificed" this game. But let's be realistic, that line-up was not an attempt to squeeze out a 0-0. If anything, before the game I was worried he was a bit too eager to win, like why not stick to the balanced set up that's worked so well recently.

Pro: even without the usual support from Werner/CHO/Reece our defense is now so in tune they managed to combine their forces for a clean sheet against a rather prolific Leeds.

Con: Our 200m GBP attacking extravaganza of Chilwell-Mount-Ziyech-Pulisic-Havertz produced way less than we should expect from them.

Mitigating factor: The pitch was really really poor, which impacts the technical game of these players quite significantly.

not so mitigating: The team was severly lacking determination to force the win at the end, and Tuchels subs were a bit late and quite poor imo (Giroud over Werner when trying to squeeze out a goal, only one of Reece/CHO for RWB, instead Alonso-->Chilly or Kovacic--> Jorgi/Kanté

I have to admit TT is my current favourite manager atm its like we finally have our own Klopp/Pep. I still think the whole Conte situation could have been handled better from both sides. Aside from Jose in the last 10 or so years him and Ancelotti were the best managers we have had.

Then along came Tom to make me believe we could still compete with the juggernauts of world football. If he gets us past Athletico on Wednesday he will be the first manager to get us in the quarters since Mourinho mk2.

Hopefully we can win a Prem and UCL in the next 3 years because that's most likely the only thing that will guarantee he actually has a lengthy (by our standards) reign. A friendly reminder Mr Tuchel hasn't lost a league game since November 2019....

Yeah so far, it doesn’t seem as if our draw will count against us too much.

Depends, is our aim 4th place? As we used to joke the Arsenal cup lol.

If it is then hos gamble paid off perfectly IF we get past Atletico as the 3 main sides chasing us, Hammers, Toffees and Spuds, all lost. So we technically gained a point on them.

If we want to catch Leicester or United...not so much. However again I think it comes down to IF we get past Madrid. I am pretty sure TT and the team focused on the CL when considering the Leeds game.

I think the given the way this season has gone, the board will be content with 4th and look to build next season. CL is always crucial   .I don’t see us catching Leicester or United.

Just the two wins in our last five league games.

Really need to start picking up some more points if we want to secure a top 4 spot.

The run of fixtures coming up looks favourable on paper but with a misfiring front line I can't say I'm filled with confidence that we're going to score against stubborn opposition that are likely to sit deep against us.

I have no idea how but Tuchel needs to get the attacking players to start actually scoring.

I personally think he needs to pick a preferred front 3 and give them some consistent run of games and the others push for their place off the bench, the persistent changing of the front line cannot be helping the attacking players in building any sort of chemistry between them.

My preferred front 3 would be Werner, Kai and Mount.

Have to agree on the front three. It's still not great to be honest, but Werner can stretch defences at the very least, which has helped Kai and Mount in last few games.

Ziyech can't press and looks the definition of a luxury player to be honest, which don't really succeed in the PL these days. More talented players (Ozil etc) have failed.

Pulisic looks a shadow of the player from last season. I don't get the feeling he is playing his way back into form either. CHO would be the only one starting on rotations for me. Maybe Giroud against parked buses.

Is it me or are the way games are going for us these days pretty easy to call based on how we start?

Under Sarri, Lampard and now Tuchel after about ten minutes I seem to either be pretty relaxed (because I'm confident we'll find a way to win) or pretty tense (because I feel a slog fest of a game coming on) and rarely have my early instincts failed me under any of them.
