Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

If we go with Potter he is under so much pressure straight away. The players are looking at his training methods, does he put on good sessions. He’s got to have confidence to stand in front of a group, mainly full international’s and convince them he deserves the job based on his career so far.

I have said this before. He comes across as a cool dude. On the sideline he normally looks like he is enjoying himself and interacts a lot with his coaching assistants. His players all look like they would run through a brick wall for him.

Will that translate with ALL our mega-star players? Who the f**k knows? Those that are selected will probably be on board. Some that aren't may look to rock the boat. But would that be any different for any other manager? I don't think so.

I like Potter, I think he’s a great manager and doing a fantastic job at Brighton.

He definitely would have been one of my first choices, but still I would keep Tuchel. He is the best coach out there after Guardiola and Klopp imo.

I think Todd have f*cked up massively here. Graham Potter is one of these managers you need to have patience with and it pays off as we saw with Brighton. You don’t get that at Chelsea.

Sacking Tuchel was utterly pointless.

We all saw how that worked out.

The only way we could possibly compound the utter idiocy of sacking Tuckel 5 games in to the year is by hiring Potter.

No record as a player or as a manager. The egos in the dressing room will eat him alive. This is a "Oh he plays nice football signing" , but I'll make the same comment as when people were turning their lonely eyes to Eddie Howe a while back. There is a difference between over performing with a medicore team and winning every week with a team of players worth 300k a week.

This is a bad call that will end with us outside the top 4 and back where we started next summer.

He's a young manager though....a whole two years younger than Tuchel. So there's that...

AVB played some nice stuff at Porto. Rodgers played some nice stuff at Swansea. We've thrown away one of the best in the business for a pipe dream.

He may get that here. The more the shock from this morning has sunk in the more I think he was never Todd’s man.

If that’s the case and he does indeed want to change the culture (presumably style of football), then he’ll want his own man, sure I read he has in fact kept coaches long term in America.

Either way it’s still rather s**t.

^^^ THIS LOL

I don't get why people are falling over themselves to call Potter a "young" manager. He's 47 FFS. He's been a manager for nearly 12 years already !!!

He's young in terms of top level experience, like OGS who had been managing for years but still considered a rookie when he was at Utd.

He's basically the same age as Tuchel 🤣

He's just never won anything or done anything of note so people convince themselves he's a young upcoming manager

He's basically the Lingard or Loftus Cheek of managers.

Big step up. Have!‘t followed him but many, not only on this forum, rate him very high. Will be interesting to see how he handles mid-week matches week in week out hence much less prep time before matches, the necessity of rotating elite divas and players and one hell of a lot more limelight. All that with next to no CV which may be a problem down the line with players that at times look like they tool the CL win a bit too personal.

I suspect Potter will want to bring his backroom staff with him, if he joins. Most managers do that

Managers negotiate their wage, then they negotiate staff. Club will give a budget and then manager has to talk to staff eg Asst Man, coach, fitness coach and goalkeeper coach to see if they will move for x amount. If manager wants more staff  it normally comes from his slice of the pie. If not he keeps staff already at the club.

sh*t manager who will be polishing a turd!

Get your 'manager selection poll' fingers ready in time for Christmas, chaps and chapesses!

KTBFFH!

To be fair at least there would be a much better crop of managers available in December, like Hansi Flick and Luis Enrique

Only bright side I see is that Mason Mount is going to start and shine for yet another football manager and all plastics will have to eat their words yet again.

He's been starting for Tuchel almost every game this season......

Totally agree. Another big challenge for Potter will be playing two games a week and won’t have the luxury of time on the training pitch to get his ideas across like he does at Brighton.

Good manager, done wonders at Brighton with little budget and playing good football.

However, is he the manager for Chelsea at this stage? I doubt it. How much time will he be given to revamp the team and build his style of football? 12-18 months at best. In Boehly's mind, he'd think if Potter could improve a team of 50M worth of talent, he would do wonders with my 300M team. The reality is it doesn't work like that, Potter either needs to buy his own type of players, or have players believe in his methods. How is he going to convince the likes of Auba or KK to play his way? After all, those players probably never heard of him. You need a bit of aura for a manager at Chelsea, and with all due respect Potter hasn't tested himself at the top level. There's no debate his Brighton team played good football, but how many teams are parking the bus against Brighton, or treat the game as one of the biggest of the season? There's a huge difference between managing Brighton and a team fighting at the top.

He will get some love from the media as he's one of the few local managers, but the love won't save him from our crazy owner. He will get paid loads and fill up his CV with the Chelsea experience as many other good managers, and we will do the sack and hire thing again in 12-18 months.

What exactly have Auba or KK ever done to write home about? KK stayed low in Naples winning next to naff all and Auba has one German cup medal and one FA cup medal, both of which are overshadowed by the stink he caused at the Emirates and getting kicked out.

This isn’t the squad of Cech, Terry, Ballack and Drogba. I think Potter would be fine amongst our current ranks.

One thing that should be mentioned is that Potter's Brighton had the highest net spend of any club outside the top 6 in the 3 years he's been there.

Given that, is finishing 15th, 16th and 9th the massive overachievement all the pundits seem to think it is?

Who are these mega star players people being up. Right now we've got Auba? Sterling? It's not like the old days where lampard jt drogba cech would throw a manager under the bus.

Fair enough, but who would be your choice if he (potentially) isnt up to it?

Sticking with Tuchel was the best choice as wasn't anyone better available. At least if we'd waited till Christmas managers like Flick and Enrique might have become available.

Poch, Rodgers and Potter all feel like massive downgrades on Tuchel. Out of the lost Poch is probably the best given what he did with Tottenham on 0 budget, I dont think any manager has done well at PSG so hard to judge. Rodgers almost taking Leicester to top 4 is pretty impressive as well. Potter hasn't really achieved anything that warrants the Chelsea job.
