Alvaro Morata

Featured Replies

This deal has just hit me. Morata is going to kill it for us. :JC_doubleup:

Even better seeing United fans half convincing themselves Lukaku is better and Madrid are out to get them and half worried about how well he'll fit into our team.

I really hope he is a success here. But I have a nagging feeling he is going to be Shevchenko-esque...

Think we all do with any big money strikers because of our past.

in reality it's nothing like Shevchenko as unlike him Morata is proven in multiple leagues, is 24 and has his best years ahead of him.

All done by that terrible board of ours who are idiots if you were to believe certain"fans". Fans who go strangely quiet whenever we make a good signing. It's very weird.

I have avoided posting on any rumours thread as it frankly makes very unpleasant reading... I wonder whether the Emanolo, Marina and board critics wil admit (and realize) that they were talking complete nonsense. How can you blame someone without information, I still don't get it.

In any case, really happy with this. So glad we didn't get Lukaku.

Fully agree with all of that, the transfer threads are a clusterf**k if idiocy, petulance and ignorance unfortunately. I used to enjoy the close season, a few rumours here and there, a few good signings. Now it's just Twitter dickheads spouting unsubstantiated bullsh*t and Muppets believing all of it, then kicking off at the club when we don't actually sign some random player for £90m.

Also agree on the lukaku thing, morata just has so much more to his game.

Has anyone heard from the ever-reliable Football Agent?

:laugh2:

Probably down the job centre after it turns out spending time talking sh*te on a forum doesn't get his clients many moves.

Or he's working night shift on the fries this week.

A Real Madrid fan's opinions on the transfer:

Quote

Hey Guys, Congratulations on signing Alvaro. I'm a Madridista and wanted to share my 2 cents on Alvaro. Re posting from earlier. This will be a fairly long post so bear with me please.

As somebody who has seen him consistently since his debut, here are my thoughts -

Negatives -

  • Has games where he goes completely anonymous. Misses a lot of chances(understandable as he never gets consistent game time to build up a rhythm). Offside a lot.
  • He is a very emotional guy. You will know when he is frustrated and when things are not going for him. An experienced defender can take advantage of this.
  • Compared to Lukaku and Belotti, I would say on current form/stats, he is behind both(Lukaku>Belotti>Morata right now).

Now on to the positives -

  • Big game player. Rises to the occasion and is extremely clutch. Not just his goals, but his chances created, assists, everything goes to a different level when its a big game. Champions league Quarter Finals, you are a goal down at home, dont worry. Alvaro will get you to semi final because thats the kind of footballer he is. And more importantly, that's the kind of person he is.
  • Very physical, doesn't get bullied by physically imposing defenders. While his top speed may not make it look like he is very fast, but his acceleration is incredible. A big reason why he consistently surprises defenders. Potentially, unplayable when he accelerates with the ball and dribbles with confidence (CL 2015-16 bayern Second leg comes to mind).
  • Very selfish(in a good way) and has very good positioning. Great heading ability too.
  • While I think currently he is behind both Lukaku and Belotti because he never seams to get a continuous rhythm going, his ceiling is way higher than both. He is an overall better footballer. With a manager like Conte, I expect him to become the best striker in the league
  • He has always been a player with a chip on his shoulder. Part of why he has been so good in big games. And that combined with his workrate, I cant think of a better striker for Conte than him. No wonder he got a completely unproved and untested Morata to Juve at the time.

His goals per game ratios is amazing. People will tell you that he scored all his goals against smaller teams, but they wont tell you that his goals won us the games against strong teams like Bilbao, Villareal, Sporting Lisbon, Celta Vigo

In short, his problem is that he has never had continuous game time to show that he can lead an attack for a full season. He needs somebody to believe in him and he will deliver because he has everything that is needed in a lethal modern day striker. I will always wish him and his team the best(except against us). and hopefully he will prove everyone who doubts him wrong.

Eh, I still think we have let far too many leave with no replacements brought in, which is on the director of football. Signing a striker is good but our squad is still too thin.

I would say 1 RWB and we are set.

Do actually know the dealings going on to make that conclusion?

I don't, but the market does. blaming Everton for us not getting those players (esp Stones) is just silly

I dont think their market evaluation was 100 and 50 mil, that was everton's evaluation and both the manchester clubs had their pants pulled down by everton during these transfers.

Happy with this one.

My only nagging doubt is why Juve and Real have let him go

But let's see, he looks suited to the Prem.

Juve didn't let him go, Madrid used a buyback clause and juve had no choice.

Juve had no choice there was a buy back clause from what I hear.

And he clearly wants to leave Madrid for a starting 11 place. So I wouldn't worry why there let him go. It's not like they let him go on the cheep. Then I'd be worried

Yeah, we sold a bunch of players? Last summer and in January more. Now we have replaced Diego with Morata, Terry with Rudiger and Matic with Bakayoko. But we still don't have the depth provided by Mikel, Oscar, Ivanovic, Ramires. I think it was FC who made a much longer (better) post about it in the pre season thread.

Did you get that from Twitter?

I'll get someone else's coat

Hey guys I'm new here!

I think Morata is a great signing and hopefully he can adjust to the playing style/league pretty quickly, and hopefully he enjoys playing week in week out which is something he has rarely gotten to experience before.

I also expect Michy to get more playing time to last season as well as I thought he did well with what limited chances he got last season. Optimistically I'd be thinking 25 goals in the league between Morata and Michy.

Don't get me wrong, those four were great servants, but they were all at the stage where they had become dead-wood and it was 100% right to move them on and free up spaces for some of our youngsters. Shame Ake and Chalobah have been sold but hopefully we will see a few of the others taking those squad places in future.

Are you saying I stole the "if they'd sold him on the cheep I'd be worried" point of view from Twitter?
