January 1, 201610 yr Everyone theorising about who what where when why everything went wrong. I'm not sure if the thread contributors have inside knowledge or not. I do think that JM had problems motivating this group of players. I'm also not sure that this group of players could ever win the EPL again. I'm not sure if anyone else could have done any better than JM but I seriously doubt it. Mez
January 2, 201610 yr With the benefit of a few weeks to absorb Mourinho's departure I have come to the conclusion that it's for the best. When he gets into a downwards spiral he just doesn't seem to be able to get out of it. It's almost as if after all that winning he needs failure to release him from the ever upwards spiral of success. In a business that's all about results no manager will survive the type of run we've been on.
January 4, 201610 yr Of course, we are still a work in progress on the road to recovery, BUT it is nice to watch a bit of free flowing football again, where the players can gallop like horses in a summer field, rather than seeing them boxed in their own little stable, crippled with a fear of post match rebuke.. I have to admit that I don't miss Jose one bit. I was devastated when he went the first time, now I am happy that the ridiculous circus he made every week will be put to rest, at least for a while. We may not get top 4, but I don't really care if we play an improved brand of football that doesn't resemble paint drying on a wall.

January 4, 201610 yr We have all moved on, you have to, he's not here. Managers, players, fans, we all come and go, but the club will remain and stand the test of time. But it has left a sour taste in my mouth when I watch certain players turn it on and off at will. It's going to take some time and transfers for that feeling to completely alleviate. January 4, 201610 yr I miss the Jose we all loved back in 2004-2007 but not the Jose he became in recent times. I don't miss all the baggage that came with Mourinho - all the moaning, the bad press and the siege mentality. When it comes hand-in-hand with success and trophies you kinda accept it but it was getting harder & harder to stomach and unless Jose can change his ways, I don't think we'll ever see him return to really successful times.
January 4, 201610 yr No but I'm not really enjoying football anymore so that's probably why. Although I really didn't agree with Jose a lot in this spell and his attitude was clearly toxic. Pretty much agree with Nibs. Edited January 4, 201610 yr by Bobbywoodhogan
January 4, 201610 yr No manager will be as loved i don't think, he felt like he was ours, i'll always miss having him around. He made many mistakes this year but when i look back, this season won't be the season i think about most. I prefer to remember all the good times, and there was many more of them than there was bad ones.
January 4, 201610 yr But it has left a sour taste in my mouth when I watch certain players turn it on and off at will. It's going to take some time and transfers for that feeling to completely alleviate. Spot on , we have been let down badly by a number of players . I don't care what anyone says even if we reach "4th " this season it will not be an incredible success and turnaround by the team , as the media will point out, but highlight the complete abject failure of a title defence by the squad that if we had started as we finished could have given us back to back Championships ...... .........Yes I still miss Jose ......really hoped he would build a dynasty ...but not to be so move on to another 5 managers in 4 years ............... January 4, 201610 yr I miss the old Jose, not so much the complaining, confrontational Jose of the last few months
January 4, 201610 yr I'm with Zeta. I think the issues with his sick father have had a massive effect on him. Also, I would not be surprised if there are marital problems -- he just seemed so angry all the time.
January 4, 201610 yr Like Nibs I'm glad to see the back of the circus. I don't buy into this theory that the players were playing poorly on purpose to get him sacked, and now all of a sudden they are turning up. Mikel touched on it in his post match interview yesterday, when he said the atmosphere is now more relaxed. His methods just stopped working with this group. Wish him all the best though as long he goes abroad!
January 4, 201610 yr One swallow doesn't make a summer. More results and performances like the Palace match and I'll be happy but our performance against United was abysmal, worse than most this season under Jose. I still think we were wrong to sack him personally.
January 4, 201610 yr We were capable of majestic football under Mourinho, better than I can recall under any other Chelsea manager. The Ivanovic/Carneiro affair is what killed us, Jose was doing what he thought was best for the team but painted himself as the bad guy to pretty much everybody. If that hadn't of happened we'd be walking this league once again right now. Best manager we have ever had, probably ever will have.
January 4, 201610 yr Was it ever confirmed that Ivan was having it off with Eva? My solicitor friend who runs pretty high circles in London "confirmed" it to me, presumably from within the club although I didn't ask. The answer to your question is probably a "no" though. Hard to see how it could be.

Don't quite agree with the 1st paragraph, thought we put in some impressive shifts in Carlo's first season.Guess you meant Eva Carneiro in your second line. Best we ever had, yes. Don't know the future so can't he will be the best ever.
January 4, 201610 yr I personally preferred our playing style in Carlos first season. He made Malouda a totally different player. Will always love Jose. It's sad to see him leave like that.
January 4, 201610 yr Glad the circus left town, can enjoy the play much more now we have no more sideshows to contend with.

I still think we were wrong to sack him personally. The players are in no win situation with some fans. Not you personally fc.If they play well from now until the end of the season, they will get accused of forcing Mourinho out by playing poorly. If they play poorly, then it's because they're all sh*t and we shouldn't have got rid of Mourinho. If they turn it around this season and climb the table, could it not be that Mourinho was a major part of the problem, and that the board got it right? Edit:this is pretty much how I see it. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/chelsea/12080790/Jose-Mourinho-had-to-go-to-allow-Chelsea-to-breathe-again.html Edited January 4, 201610 yr by big blue
