Best of a bad bunch though. Naive keeping him if we could buy a 22 year old fat Ronaldo, an 18 year old Romario or Robert Fleck but we can't so it's negligent rather than naive to let him go and end up rotating a striker who will never be more than championship level and one who looks comfortable in slippers reading Alexandre Dumas novels but less so in a penalty box. He doesn’t want to be here though, what’s the point? He showed in his last months that he couldn’t be arsed. Much rather give it to a hungry young striker who will make the effort than a sully ungrateful Spaniard who doesn’t give two sh*ts about our club
July 5, 20197 yr The Telegraph reporting that Atletico are set to try and sign Morata for around £50m following an ultimatum from Chelsea that unless they signed him permanently this summer we'd recall him from his 18 month loan. Including the loan fee Atletico paid to take him in January we'll have more or less made back the money we paid out to sign him which would be pretty good going for a player that was pants.
July 5, 20197 yr Hopefully this goes through. Tried to get behind the guy, but he's so whiny and blames everyone but himself. Even having a go at the fans despite how much support he got missing chance after chance. Can't wait to see the back of him.
July 5, 20197 yr Because of the ban and our lack of quality up front, i was wondering if Frank might think about talking to Morata to see if he'd be interested in making a fresh start at Chelsea. There's proobably too much water under the bridge for him to give it another go and it would be a huge turnaroud for him to comeback and be successful, but under the current circumstances i wouldn't object to him having another go. Having said that, there's a feelgood factor back at the club, so bringing back someone with baggage might not be a good idea.

Easily one of the worst strikers to pull on the blue shirt.
July 5, 20197 yr He has qualities for sure but maybe not right fit for EPL. I think he is probably our best centre forward as I’m not sure how Tammy will shape up in the Prem. Dont think he has the work ethic that Lamps has referred to a few times so can see him leaving.
July 5, 20197 yr getting 50m from athletico would be amazing. Imagine getting all the money we paid for this fraud! We can start saving up our money nicely by making loads of sales in this window and the next, and come next summer we go in HUGE! We've already made about 115m from offloading Hazard and other bitpart players. Obviously 40, went to Kovacic, but we still have 75m laying about. Add the 50m from Morata and possibly sales of other players we could easily be pushing 200-250m

Thing is he wasn't, we makes the whole situation worse. On form Morata was class (his performances away to Leti and home to United were proper striker games) but his mentality issues prevented that side of him coming up as much as we needed it to.

I can understand anyone feeliing that way. However, though he's never going to be an elite level striker, i do think he's got enough talent to be a good, top four level player. I really do think his main problem is inside his head, and a bright guy like Frank might be able to help him get his head right.

I've never seen a player go down so frequently from such little contact. He didn't adjust to the physical nature of the premier league and felt hard done by anytime somebody got close. He just went down and complained as if he felt our culture of physical play was wrong. He spoke of a lack of respect from the fans but he didn't respect the physical nature of the game in this country. To be honest I don't think Pep Guardiola could get a tune out of him. We should cash in as soon as possible and build a war chest for next summer. Frank has already spoken about wanting to recreate a wining mentality with strong characters in the dressing room. Morata's character is feeble and I suspect Frank won't allow him anywhere near the dressing room. Better to have a hungry youngster or a world cup winner.

July 6, 20197 yr The guy has led the line for Spain, scored in CL finals and is still a young player, if frank thinks he can get in his head and get him going even if he is promised to go back next year, whatever it takes it would be difficult not to take a punt on him under these circumstances, we have no goals in the team and he has by far the best pedigree even if he is a mental weakling
July 6, 20197 yr I´d love to sell him for 50m - I´d sell him for much less than that. He will never make it in the EPL. May be in Spain, where complaining all the time is more common. Please go.
July 6, 20197 yr Chelsea just announced that they have sold him to Athletico. Not sure of the fee but good business for us.
July 6, 20197 yr Yes gone now., we have no starting striker this season. Edited July 6, 20197 yr by ozboy
July 6, 20197 yr Glad he’s gone, didn’t have the stomach or fight to play in England. Far too soft More money in the kitty for when the ban is up
July 6, 20197 yr Excellent news. Simply didn't work out and this was the only option. Hopefully the money goes towards the "warchest" for next summers transfer window. We have raised quite a bit of money now in sales this summer which hopefully will be available too Lampard for the rebuild.
July 6, 20197 yr Good sell. Never liked the guy, far too soft and spent far too much time on the floor, has the ability to be great but is happy being average.
July 6, 20197 yr Just read the news on the official site.... Are there two Morata's ?, because the one they talk about isn't the whinging fluffer who played in the games i saw !!!! Good riddance.
July 6, 20197 yr I always said he was a massive risk, and it's a risk that didn't pay off. I was happy for us to give him another chance last season, but he was as terrible. If we have got back anywhere close to what we paid for him, then we have done well.
July 6, 20197 yr Fell over at every gust of wind. Appalling attitude and behaviour. f**k off and don't come back
