Welcome to Chelsea Ben Chilwell

Although Alonso has great shooting and is a bit of a free kick specialist I'm also glad we are seeing more of Chillwell as I think he's a better all round player.

He's definitely the better defender and a lot faster which is vital against certain teams, he just needs to learn the wing back role.

Thought he had a terrific game yesterday. Kept Salah quiet on the defensive end and linked up well with Mount offensively.

Got the pace to outrun TAA and get into good positions a few times as well which Alonso would have struggled with.

Seems to me TT is quite happy with his wingback options on the left. Depending on the opposition he goes for Alonso when he wants extra physicality and arial threat or Chilwell of he wants pace and a more solid left flank.

Chilwell still needs to improve some technical areas of his game but he is young and should improve. He also has a significant pace advantage over Alonso, and is better on the defensive side. I think Alonso will still feature in plenty of games as we need to utilize the whole squad with fixtures coming thick and fast. But it is good to see Chilwell getting regular starts under Tuchel.

I actually thought he was poor, ruined the few attacking opportunities that he had, defensively not great, allowed Salah to cut in very easily twice that almost lead to Mane/Jones free on separate occasions.

I still think he's got ways to go.

He was terrible yesterday offensively couldn’t cross the road if he tried he’s crossed either get blocked or over hit. Defensively nothing to write home about.

Had alonso out in that performance he would have been ripped apart on this forum

He restricted Salah (the top scorer in the league this season)  to 2 chances and Salah was even subbed off later in the game. I think you're being too harsh, it wasn't that bad of a performance you're making it out to be.

Alonso would have been destroyed by Salah.

The back three restrcted Salah ..... Rudi mostly like he did to Mane he switched there.

Containing Salah is a difficult job, but I wouldn't say Chilwell did his job well defensively.

Watch Salah when he played that ball into Mane, realistically Mane should've buried that, Pools best chance of the game. Chilwell allowed Salah to cut in, then he did it again exactly a few minutes later and almost played in Curtis Jones for a one v one.

This might be pretty brutal, but I thought he was one of the weak links yesterday, him and Ziyech were the only two who I thought could've done a lot better.

Looked so average.  So frustrating watching him time and time again receive the ball to only run backwards.  His passes were all off weight, and couldn't keep up with his recovery runs.  That was very poor performance.

Thought he done well against Liverpool, but today he was really poor.

I cant warm to his as a player, I wasnt impressed with him at Leicester, and he has been up and down this season.

Decent left back, but i dont see this potential that he could be one of the best left backs in europe or even in the league.

Everything we are seeing from him in recent months is the reason why I didn't want us to sign him. He can be good, like he was at the start of the season, but at this current point in his career, he doesn't seem to have it in him to keep it going. The thing is, I don't think it's an issue with his quality, it looks more like an attitude problem.

I don't think it is attitude, I think he is just a bit fragile mentally ... compare him to Alonso, who has all the swagger and confidence anyone could ever need. You can see it in how they hold themselves, how they walk, the whole body language thing.

Alonso is the clear number 1 choice at Lwb at this stage. Chillwell has had a good few chances now and the best you could say is that he was Ok against Liverpool and Everton.

He looks awful in an attacking sense, pretty much every time the ball goes out to him he turns backwards, or fires in a poor/blocked cross. Not sure how he’s regressed so much , he looked very good going forward for the first few months at Chelsea and I was always under the impression that he was more of an attacking full back while at Leicester.

Really poor again doesn’t really offer anything going forward like at the start of the season, average defensively only thing he seems to offer is the recovery pace which Alonso lacks

Terrible today.  Especially offensively. He is a second or 2 too late passing the ball.  Way too tentative...There was a play today where Chilwell had loads of space when he should of passed to a wide open Pulisic in the middle. Easy first time pass and he hesitated the defenders got into position and a great chance became a half chance.

wingback formation Alonzo has to play

Awful performance in his favored back 4.  How much did we pay for him? At the time the media were reporting that we were looking at Chilly, Reguilon and Telles. Would probably take both of those over Ben at the moment.
