A shame we still sent out a bunch of worthless players on loan isntead of finding permanent deals

Well, if they're worthless it's hard to see why anyone else would want to pay money for them.

Went clubbing during the season > Tried to chat up a player's girlfriend > Gets beaten up and his legs smashed by some guys

2 more years of this guy after the end of this season, with the previous drink driving ordeal and if he has a bad season/doesn't play much this season, I don't think any prem clubs will touch him.
I can imagine him going to the Championship and we'l have to subsidise his wages or he'll just sit here for 2 years..

Doesn't read very well does it ?

DD doesn't seemed to have learned anything from his drink/driving ban.  He must have pissed some people off pretty badly in that club for them to assault him like that ...

I personally believe he lost his way when it became evident he wasn't making it here.

I reckon in his mind the Leicester season was a break through for him at the top level and us going for him only in his ,ind further confirmed that, so the realization it isn't panning out that way is probably a lot to take.

Burnley are ending Drinkwater’s loan spell.

Lets just let him go in January for a fiver. A disaster of a signing

Yeah it was an odd transfer when it happened, and how his time here has played out makes you wonder who wanted this purchase,

People will still point the blame at Sarri for Drinkwater's downfall

I can see why it happened when it did.

Drinkwater suited what Conte wanted in his midfielder, industrious, good defensively and a good quick passer in the transition's. The version we thought we were getting (the Leicester title winning version) would have very much been an upgrade on Matic circa 15-17.

However as soon as we started to transition to a more possession based style he was done for (as were quite a few players in fairness), what I am surprised about is that his time at Burnley didn't get off the ground as on paper that's the perfect team for him.

I think we signed him because (1) he was great with Kante in Leicester's title winning midfield (2) he's English  (3) he was £40m and not £80m.

It didn't work out, like may others over the years. I don't think he has a way back with us. Lamps had a look at him in pre-season and decided he wasn't going to be part of the squad, and I doubt, with all the negativity surrounding him, that he even wants him back at Cobham.

If DD actually wants to play football then he's going to have to leave, and will have to accept a significant wage cut. With the personal problems, even if he leaves for free, he represents a big risk to the signing club, especially after the loan move fiasco. I think if I was Marina,  I'd be trying to negotiate a contract termination settlement ...

He's ended up as a complete waste of money, albeit paling almost into insignificance in the context of Sanchez at Manure !

Am I the only one who thought he was actually decent whenever he played? I never thought he was ever Chelsea material but I thought he was a decent player and rotational option, his passing and holding was actually quite good and he played in some of the big games for Conte. Whereas with Bakayoko it was a very dark comedy and he couldn't play football to save his life.

Still though... What a waste of money, him and Bakayoko both cost 80 million, Conte you f**king lunatic.

Yup, Drinkwater's a good player. Maybe not Chelsea quality but light years ahead of Bakayoko.

I always thought he was a decent option back then however its hard to say how good he actually was considering the comparison was Bakayako who really has to be up there with the worst signings for Chelsea ever.

Compared to the current crop of midfielders he seems well below average

Sorry, but can't be doing with all this poor fella hope he gets the help.. Blah blah blah..
He could have moved before now but doesn't want to give up the money and now he's f**ked it up by becoming a pisshead.

No sympathy from me, i would have sacked him for gross misconduct after the first drink related f**k up, you choose to become a drunken waster it isn't forced upon you especially in a position of wealth where any amount of 'help' is within your grasp.

Mutu all over again !!

i think we signed him and Bakayoko in the same window, or at least successive ones.  I always said we should have saved the money on them and gone with one great signing.  I think we added Zappacosta around the same time too.  Man, what a load of cash to piss away.
