Mason Mount

Raheem, Broja and CP should get next start - we all know that. Let's see if little Tommy T opens his eyes or not.

I would agree against any other side but Mount is like Werner was against Saints...

Ok Mason clearly needs my help again so for his, @Munkworth and all our sakes I will oblige.

Mount is playing like someone who's head is still stuck on missing his penalty at Wembley. Pull your head out of your a$$ mase, you are so cr@p at the moment that you, one of our hardest workers normally, is getting hooked at half time when we are down to 10 men, and we look much better for it.

Remember who you are, and stop playing like you're stuck in that swamp you were born in...

@Valerie fingers crossed please.

Definitely struggling to impact games, but I’d have sterling left wing over him every day.
Maybe a good time for Mount to work on his game impacting from deeper. Something seems off though, we’ve never seen him this quiet on the football pitch. Hope all is ok with him and I know he’ll come good.

Correct decision to sub him off at HT, we looked far more solid and wing backs had room and freedom go forward. He's missing that spark at moment, I think taking him out of the spot light be a good change. I don't see him as the undroppable at this stage of his career

I see it only took a couple of off games and the usual types are moaning about Mount favouritism etc.

He'll come good no doubt.

He really wasn't all that great last season either though. Had a couple of patches where he looked back to his best but overall he didn't really match at least my expectations last season.

We obviously really need Mount at his best so I really hope he picks it up. When Tuchel came in last year he looked like a superstar in the making for a while. He's not been quite at that level in a while now in my opinion. And so far this season he's been straight up poor.

As I said in another thread, scoring a single goal against top half opposition last season was not a great achievement for him - especially playing as a forward. The oft-used rebuttal is that he plays like more of a midfielder in that position. But the evidence suggests he doesn't get on the ball near enough for that to be true.

Iniesta played quite a few games as left forward under Guardiola and barely scored. But what he did at the highest level was press, drop deep,  demanded the ball, created key chances, occupied defenders, and all the other little things that made him an absolute great.

Mase has some way to go to reach a high level consistently (same for Kai), and I really hope he does. Though, even if he doesn't, he'll still be a decent contributor to our success and that's okay too. But we do need more. We can't compete in that area with Diaz+Salah, Kane+Son, Haaland+Silva.

You know, some players you don't expect anything from so you just accept them being absolutely trash at all times. Havertz, Pulisic etc.

Mount shouldn't be one of those though. At this point he should be one of our leaders and one that can drag us out of trouble instead of giving us trouble. And this season he's giving us trouble big time. Quite frankly been completely useless all season and again today.  Really disappointing.

He definitely looks woefully off form right now. He started last season slowly too, and I do think he will come good. But on current form he should be dropped. Problem is who takes his place. On tonight's evidence Pulisic offers no improvement, and Ziyech looks like he has foot out of the door. I guess we have CHO? er...

Agreed. He has looked a shadow of his potential so far this season. Really doesn't merit a starting berth just now but is probably guaranteed one just now due to the lack of an alternative.

He normally would be the first name on team sheet for me but yeah, he’s been really disappointing this season. I don’t get it, I’ve always thought he had a strong mentality and was consistent. I’m not sure what happened this season but hopefully he’ll snap out of it soon.

Play 60+ games 3 seasons in a row at a young age and things like this are inevitable. The amount of games he is playing should be the amount you play in your late 20's, when your body is fully developed and at it's peak. Mount has played too much football for a player of his age. He's had no time off to rest, look at his game and study where he needs to improve. The way he has been managed, there is a high risk that he will be finished by his mid 20's. What is happening to him now is something I feared would happen for a while now.

Time off is a very good point. Those international games in a short pre season in world cup year were not a help at all to many.

He won’t get time off. Tuchel will run him to the ground along with others.

You are a sensible poster, and far from the negative Nelly I am. Should we sack TT?

I think TT's divorce really did a number on him, and has turned him into a bitter person who is not thinking clearly.

I am starting to think he needs to go, though I agree he should be given to the WC break.

Did he shag the missus all night or played video games all night or something?

Unfocused and lazy af. What the feck happened to him?

I’m sure someone posted in the match thread he clocked the largest distance across both teams in the first half so not sure lazy is fair.

He does look completely off it though, not sure what’s going on with him - it’s very unusual. Having said that the whole team is off the boil.
