Except flashes from Sterling, KK, Cucurella and Silva the rest of the players was a total  "grey substance". You couldn't tell who was or wasn't on the pitch because of a such poor performance.

After watching that I feel rather underwhelmed by Chelsea (entirely as expected), but absolutely depressed by Premier League football. First game of a new season, and same old sh*t. A team almost guaranteed to finish in the top four (but a long way off being champions) playing ninety odd minutes against a team that even at their home ground have absolutely zero interest in anything other than a nil nip draw. They only showed a little more interest because we went so lethargic/couldn’t be arsed that it was almost impossible for them to not look slightly more offensive.

The owner may have changed, but our team remains like watching paint dry and most of our opponents couldn’t be happier with that.

Sterling played well, but he must be wondering why the hell he moved.

I'd start Broja next game, if he's fit enough. Havertz just doesn't do enough.

Also Mount is far more effective from the left than the right.

Good 3 points not so good performance, got to hope we get Auba in and the team gels, Chilly & James surely will improve need that lad Fofana badly I can see that now !

Yeah, so was Havertz. But the masses will blame Pulisic. Maybe some of you braniacs will eventually realize this offensive scheme Tuchel is running sucks. Disjointed, no rhythm,  looks like a pick up game offensively. No attacking mids kill this team, as well as having no set striker. Everything is contingent on the wingbacks. If they suck, you get sh*t shows like today.

Mount and Havertz didn't fit in with Sterling this match, we lack an inside forward to accompany Sterling's game too I feel.

I think you're right but the problem is that this scenario was seen too many times last season.

The 2nd part is unfortunately debatable. 

Given we aren't finished in the transfer window, it's the first game of the season and we've not won at goodison in years I'll take that win

Big Dunc showing more game awareness than TT, playing a big unit of a striker as a left winger, what the actual f**k, happens in Tuchels mind, doesn’t happen to most normal managers, Tuchel showing the signs that he showed at PSG, and we know how that ended…..

It's not. It's on the current squad.

What can Tuchel do?

He can have Kovacic, Jorginho and Kante all get forward more but they're all terrible in the final 3rd. It's just not their game.

It's a personel issue not a coaching issue.

We lack midfielders who are going to create chances and/or score and have for a while.

It was a very welcome 3 points. But with KK cramping up and Silva holding his hamstring in the 1st game of the season, we need probably one more CB. 

Please not another season where we amble around and don't have any shots at goal. We made an awful Everton side look semi decent.

We need to stop saying such and such player is playing in such and such position, especially when it comes to our forwards. Broja wasn't playing on the left wing, Sterling wasn't playing as a striker. They were roaming forwards that were sometimes on the wing and sometimes playing centrally. Football pundits not understanding this shows they don't have a grasp of the modern game, and it's the reason why they are doing punditry and not coaching.

Not vintage but we got the job done at a bogey ground. Let get frenkie and Fofana in a bit ridiculously hard to beat.

if we can build on defensive solidity, and gain points and confidence

we can then focus on our attacking play.

i rather win games like this than every game having to win 4-3 3-2 and absolute chaos

Hey guys . . . We won.  Haven't won there in quite a while actually.

 

Sure some things can get better, but I will take the win.

A win is a win but boy do we need to improve at the top end of the pitch.

Winning 1-0 is impossible and we are more likely to be pegged back to 1-1 with performances like that.

Sterling was good though, as was KK and Silva.

I though Cucurella looked good when he came, a crisp passer of the ball - you could see why Pep wanted him at City.

Reece James, I thought he was very lacklustre today. He must of taken about 10 corners and I can’t remember any that caused any panic in the Everton box.

We played like it was our first pre-season match.

Need to be much better against Spurs.
