Showed today how vital Mason is to our team but great that we got away with it and a nice rest for him!

Isn't that the truth.  Great to think someone of his quality can slot straight back in.

“The boy who had a dream”

Its incredible how many 'fans' are getting upset by this banner on twitter. I forgot how many idiots we have in our fan base sat behind keyboards.

Could be the same idiots who still sing anti Semitic songs when we play Spurs.

It's wild to see folks getting upset about a banner celebrating a player that's been with us since they were 6yo ffs.

Anyway, i'm all for all our academy lads getting banners

I think Mount is one of these players that look worse for having a rest. Hopefully back to his best against Spurs because he had a bit of a shocker tonight.

You could be right as he improved more as the game progressed.
Looked like he was trying to hard and snatching at things in the first half

I think he has been average in every game he ha played for us and England this season, tonight was worse.

I am not surprised though, most of of our fans used to think Mount was simply not good enough while he was outplaying all of  "superstar" attackers that we signed last season.

I am always in two minds about Mount. To me he is like Kova in that he has so many of the elements of a great player but just misses. In Mounts case his shooting and to an extent his last pass aren't  good enough for a top attacking midfielder.  On the other hand his work rate, his very fast turns with the ball and his ability to retain possession are excellent.

He has definitely lost his mojo, needs to get it back pretty quickly, like this weekend will do.

Looked already overplayed end of last season imho, could still pull it off but exhausted none the less. Add the Euro tourney and the immediate pressure to deliver just into the new season ... I'm not really surprised he looks out of sync at times as he likely lacks a good deal of mental freshness.

I think this is just and age and experience thing. There was a time when Mount was criticised for his ball retention skills as he was very lightweight - now he's a beast! He has high level shooting and assists in his locker as showed in the champions league final and with the odd banger he's scored from outside/edge of the box. I've got every confidence he'll become more consistent with it and become one of the world's best.

High level shooting & assists level where? 6 goals & 5 assists in 32 PL starts, & 2 goals & 2 assists in 9 CL starts is nowhere near high. It is actually average for a player starting in the band of 3 for a top 4 club.
I agree with Ozboy that his stats aren’t good enough but he gets loads of passes for his off the ball running and pressing, which isn’t a metric you judge a player in that role on. Personally think he is playing far too high up the pitch, and would be better in the middle of the park in a mid 3.

What is Kai number last season? We are talking about player who many consider as one of the best prospect in Europe.

27 PL matches, 4 goals, 5 assists. For a 21 year old that was moved to almost all possible positions and that had the virus at some point this isn't bad at all.

Mount was used in all different positions too. Started the season at LW, then RW, then CM then AM. There are many other players who are top players by 27/28 who are no better stats wise than Mount was at same age.

Is Kai the new Jorginho for you?

I think it’s easy to forget that a lot of our players are still essentially youngster because they’ve been in the first team for so long.

Mason seems like a guy who’ll know his weaknesses and work on them - I’m pretty sure most of the young players will be the same or they wouldn’t be in our first team.

Only Robben has better figures in a Chelsea shirt at his age

I have no issues with Mount, he's a key player to me. I was just saying that Kai wasn't that poor all things considered.
