Great goal.  Could be the start of a beautiful thing.  Love him in a midfield 3, and love a player that is prepared to put his foot through the ball and shoot.

Nice to see somebody actually take a quality long shot. All of this passing about around the penalty area wasn't going to get us anywhere.

The problem is that I don't think he fits a possession based team. It's like a complete mismatch with his style of play and it makes him look out of his depth. He's not one for intricate passing and trying to score perfect goals. He likes to get stuck in and make things happen.

Delighted for him…those who have been slagging the kid off (talking generally) don’t deserve to enjoy the moment. 

I like the energy and spark he brings to the game , I do appreciate that may be the intricate pass etc isn't his game , let someone else do that

while he's hassling and generally getting in peoples faces .

Look at the goals he scored last season, he has excellent feet and more than anything keeps cool when shooting or preparation g to shoot. 
 

I think he will be a nailed on starter in a year or so. if not sooner.

If we are going to call people out for slagging off a player just because he scored a goal, then you're basically saying no fan can ever enjoy the moment, because every player gets criticism. Jorginho gets it every week, so by your logic, nobody can ever enjoy the moment when he scores a penalty.

Great goal by him on Saturday. Up until Saturday I thought he has been poor and looked a bit out of his depth. Hopefully that goal gives him some confidence and helps kickstart his Chelsea career. 

It was a fantastic goal. You don't score goals like that in the last minute unless you're a serious player! Get in there Conor!

There’s a difference between slagging someone off and criticising. As I said, I wasn’t aiming this at anyone in particular. The first post I’ve read from you on the subject is your reply to me. I’m rarely on here these days.

I agree with what you're saying, playing him deeper and expecting him to run attacking plays instead of finishing them is a criminal waste, much as if Mourinho played Lampard in Makelele's position.

Every great "possession-based" team needs someone who is a threat from range. When Barcelona's tiki-taka couldn't break us down in '09 it was Iniesta who lashed one home from range. AC Milan's dominant sides had Seedorf, Man United had Scholes and now Man City won the title thanks to Rodri.

After probably the worst possible start for Chelsea he's started to show his class. Looks good on the ball and his energy is so important. When him and Mount are on form they make it so difficult for the opposition to play football. Absolutely smothered the Wolves defence at the weekend high up the pitch.

Team energy levels are incredibly important. A few young and strong players that will chase down the impossible balls regularly makes a massive difference to overall team importance, at least in my view. Mount is terrific like that.

Playing Gallagher in a restricted pivot is as daft as Lampard putting Kante as a sole DM. 

Good news in that he was just feeling sick tonight and had to come off. Hopefully only a 24hrs bug.

It could improve him as a player with the experience too.

He should have started last night - no reason to have him on the bench unless he is a nailed on starter for the Newcastle game.
